We live in a world where we encounter toxins every single second, of every single day. Now, this seems quite obvious if you are breathing in exhaust from a vehicle directly, but what about those that aren’t as obvious? Chemicals are in the air we breathe, the foods we eat, the products we put in and on our bodies. Literally, everywhere. It might seem like it’s unavoidable, but I’m here to tell you it’s possible to make small changes that result in a big impact on your health. This is a journey to uncover and understand the truths within the beauty and food industries as it relates to our everyday wellness and health.

I want to stress, that I am by no means a certified expert in any of these areas, but simply began researching after one particularly alarming video that launched me into a journey to eliminate toxic products to the best of my ability in my daily life. This essentially means no parabens, synthetic fragrances, etc. Read more about why you should even care about cutting out these toxic ingredients here and here. These sites do an amazing job of clarifying these terms if they are new to you.

This did not happen overnight and I’m still not 100% “clean” so-to-speak. I am constantly reading, following blogs, and researching to continue learning about how I can make safe and effective swaps. This is exactly the type of info you will now have access to via my site–yay!

Throughout my journey, I’ve found a few fantastic sites that have helped me continue learning and understanding about this area of wellness. I thought you might like to have a list as well. I have deemed the following trustworthy and peruse on a daily basis via the actual websites or mostly through Instagram which each blog/site has a handle for as well:

There is a whole additional category that I’m just beginning to explore with fragrances specifically. For example, perfumes, candles, sprays, etc. And then for future reference, I am completely terrified of all the creams, lotions, and potions for babies!! Agh, just think of slathering toxic sludge all over a sweet baby!

These are the concerns that are becoming more mainstream as a result of some pretty amazing women who are fighting to keep these synthetic hormones out of our daily products and increase legislation regulation for the consumption of beauty products we use every single day. It’s a vicious cycle and it can be quite overwhelming, but my best advice is start small. Don’t let it all terrify you. You can do this, and I’m here to help! Start with products you use every day and/or carry the most risk or have the most synthetic ingredients. A good rule of thumb is if you can’t pronounce it or don’t know what it is, don’t use it—same thing for the ingredients found in your food. It’s an overall mission to become more conscious of these chemicals, foods, and scents we are ingesting over and over for most of our lives to hopefully live a purer, clean, and more focused life.

The most exciting thing about getting into paraben-free cosmetics, and such, is that most sites offer discounted samples and trial sizes. Also, these products really do work! There are some amazing subscription boxes out there as well that help provide more familiarity with brands that focus on eliminating these toxic ingredients in their products. It helped me become more comfortable searching on my own and trying out products without being wasteful.
